"Sadie, too, has zero patience with puppies. She will growl and even bark at them if they get in her space, but never snaps or bites, and almost all the puppy owners we've encountered seem to appreciate her willingness (ha!) to help with their…"
"Teddy himself was corrected by older dogs when he was a puppy. So I can understand how this feels as new dog owner. I put my trust in the older dogs owners (experienced owners) and after a few puppy corrections, it was peaceful…"
"oh, I have to read this article. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the encouragement that Teddy might just be correcting puppy behavior. And that he is ok NOT playing with other dogs. He really is a great dog, and others have gotten a dog…"
"I think what you're doing now...giving a time out for Teddy to calm down when you feel the behavior is getting out of hand is a great way of teaching "manners". Every now and then my two Doodles get too crazy and the behavior…"
"Luna was always super gentle and submissive with adult dogs but would put puppies in their place. If they got on her nerves she'd snap at them (never bite) and do a high-pitched yip to get them to back off.
Experienced dog owners did…"
"I'll just add that it is not at all unusual for an adult dog to have very little patience with the pestering of puppies, and to "say" so. I have a 5 mo old puppy, and whenever he spends time with any of my friends' older dogs,…"
There have only been a couple instances I thought Teddy over reacted to puppy antics. But it is mostly the larger size dogs.
These large pups can be rough because of size. Like once he had his foot stepped on by this larger dog and Teddy…"
"Thanks Jane, I do think Teddy might be having a hard time 'sharing' me.
We will stop the play growl sessions. As I have been wondering if things get heightened when other dogs don't know Teddy is playing.
Do you have suggestions on…"
"Hi Missy! I will just throw out some random thoughts for you.
- now that Teddy is 5 he may have less patience for puppy antics. It may be natural for him to issue corrections when the puppy gets too carried away. This is called “revoking his…"
"I have a Doodle who can be a bully and reactive with some dogs. We have his behavior under control now, and I'll share some of the key things that we have learned along the way.
It seems like Teddy had you all to himself and now there…"
Teddy is now 5 years old and he is starting to act differently around other dogs. It's not every dog, but I do think I have a behavior issue that needs to be addressed, I am not sure where to start.Within our social circle, we used to be the only ones with a dog. Now, everyone is getting a pup! Teddy reacts great with some, and not so great with others. I am not experienced with dogs, and need all the help I can get. I have found that introductions go better if I take Teddy off leash, to let the…See More
"oh what a doll!! 14 weeks is still a pup, so she is still learning. Just like some people like to touch everything as they shop, some pups like to 'sample with their mouths' as they go about their day.
We always yelped…"
"Oh no!! First off, I am a one dog owner, so I do not have much professional advice.
I think what others have stated as far as to get advice from some trainers if you can. (unbiased opinions maybe)
I just wanted to say that because you…"
"Oh what a cutie!! hard to not love that face!! You are doing the right thing by redirecting. Could it be that him getting into things makes you interact with him? Like negative behavior gives me mommy time...:)
It could be a…"
"Oh glad you got the sock out!
I can only share our experience. We also subscribe to the 'NILF" method. And when I say a command, I expect action. Even if it takes more time, I will stay with the dog until he yields to my…"

What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
F2b-no name yet.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
because of the shedding/allergy and the doodle love of the water.
Would you be willing to Dog Sit on occasion for other DoodleKisses members? (You are NOT committing to anything by saying yes - you are just saying you might be willing to do this if you were acquainted with the other member and the circumstances were right.)
Hi Missy, It sounds like you do have your hands full but it will get better. I forgot that Beeko walks on the floor. Luckily Bailey just hangs out on top of his cage. If I remember correctly, I spent the first several months getting Chloe to ignore Bailey and corrected her when she barked or reacted to him. I think I watched some programs on TV about it and this worked for me. At Teddy's young age, he is not expected to have his commands down solid. Bailey too showed no fear of Chloe and he was the one who teased her. But to this day, she still ignores him for the most part and he still continues to taunt her. When Chloe is by his cage, he immediately goes down to the seed guard to get close to her and she just backs away. I think Chloe instinctively knows that Bailey's beak can cause some serious damage. I hope Teddy is sleeping through the night without having to go out. That makes it easier...
Just wanted to say hi and am wondering how the pup and Beeko, and you, of course, are doing. I do remember that puppyhood is quite intense! I hope everyone is settling in and you are all enjoying "family" time.
I saw your post re getting your puppy soon. How exciting! Do get a video of their first meeting if you can! Since Chloe turned 2 last month, I can no longer post in that group! I wanted to share a positive incident between my two. A few weeks ago, Chloe and I got home from the dog park and I had left Bailey out as usual. I headed straight for the bathroom and Chloe came in and started crying and then ran into the living room, still crying. When I got there, she was standing over Bailey who was on the floor on this side of my barrier! She continued to cry until I picked him up! Then she kissed him and sniffed. I was so proud of her! Please let me know when you get your puppy!
Thank you! Our selection was easier than I expected. We had first pick of the litter and it was a small litter, only 4 puppies. We watched them for a few minutes, trying to get a sense of their personalities and how they interacted with each other. One little guy looked around for 30 seconds and immediately started shredding and throwing newspaper. He was a trouble maker, so right away we knew he wasn't the one for us. The biggest puppy just plopped down and didn't show any real interest when we pet him. The other two were kind of on the same level, and slowly came over to sniff us out. One came a little closer and slowly started licking my hand, almost as if he was thinking "is this okay, how does that feel, want to be my friend? " He was so gentle and I swear made eye contact. We picked each puppy up for a few minutes and that little guy just bonded with us right away. He just wanted to snuggle and kept looking at our faces and giving kisses. The whole thing took maybe ten minutes, I was so surprised!! I am driving all of our friends and family nuts with pictures, I am beyond excited :)
Thanks Missy for the compliments on Libby! She is the "best" dog we have ever had and amazes us everyday. I can imagine how excited you are to get your Doodle! These Doodles are so loving and family friendly! Libby loves to snuggle and cuddle with us while watching tv and it just warms our hearts. Puppyhood can be a challenge, but it is also lots of fun. You should join the Puppy Madness group, it is very informative. Be sure and post pictures when you bring your Doodle home:)
