When we got our puppy at 8 weeks, we were told he was held the most in the litter. He begged everyone to pick him up. They described his personality as a calm puppy that just went with the flow and…Continue

"My seven month old puppy takes a similar approach to eating. She likes to eat a few bites, take a lap around the kitchen, wait for our older dog to finish eating, lick his empty bowl and then finish hers. If this whole process takes longer than…"

"I knew he was being a punk! LOL (a very cute and sweet punk at that). I'm now wondering if this behavior was accelerated because we scaled back on his treats due to his digestive issues. He's not very happy that we hung up the beef liver…"

"This actually would not be a bad discussion to post in the Training Group, lol, because what he's doing is controlling resources, the resource in this case being the food bowl and the food. My Jasper is the same age and has started doing this…"

He eats maybe a 1/3 of it, then walks away. We offer the bowl again to him after 10 minutes. He takes a few more nibbles, then walks away again. For a while, we accepted it as normal behavior. He's just bored with his food, we thought. He began scavenging for food at our neighbor's house last week. He almost…See More

"Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I will read the book. If only there was a vet that actually researched the product they were pushing. I get that nutrition is not taught in vet/med school (ok, maybe I don't get it), but it doesn't mean…"

"The vets promote Hill's Science diet because the company markets to them with all sorts of incentives, trips, gifts, seminars, etc. and a lot of heavy duty sales pitches. (Purina and Mars (Royal Canin) are the other two companies who make Rx…"

"It's perfectly normal for a dog to be very interested in "new" food, especially if that food is not of the best quality; believe it or not, the cheaper foods (those brands that are not on our list) often use rancid fats to create more…"

Josh Adams replied to Josh Adams's discussion Hunger / diarrhea issues
"I've thought a lot about stress as a leading factor to his diarrhea (my husband and I don't agree on this). Our pup is generally happy, loves people and all dogs, but at home, he's sometimes moppy and yawns a lot / licks his nose. He…"
