Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Before the press came out about the contaminated dog food from China, our lab began experiencing kidney problems. As soon as the press alerted us to the problem, we discontinued his sweet potato treats, which were manufactured there. Luckily, he improved. We had no evidence that the treats were behind his kidney issues except for his improvement after it was removed from his diet. Until now. The brand we used is listed in this new warning. Beware! http://poisonedpets.com/2012/04/06/alert-vets-warn-about-new-treats...

Comment by J & Luna on May 2, 2012 at 9:06am This makes me so sick. Luna ate a whole bag of Canyon Creek chicken jerky as training treats as a puppy when we didn't know better. So far she's very healthy and we can only hope that she doesn't have any lasting damage.
She only gets U.S. or Canadian sourced treats now, but I still think about what might have happened if we hadn't made the switch!
Comment by Karen & Jackdoodle on May 2, 2012 at 7:36am Nicky, some of the bad ingredients and preservatives that are in dog treats here in the US are not even allowed in Europe. I think that is true of human foods, too. In your country, life is valued over profit.
Comment by Nicky, Riley & Boris on May 2, 2012 at 7:07am Until there is some huge lawsuit Erin Brokovitch style then this will keep happening. Luckily in Ireland most of the treats originate in the EU. You need a magnifying glass to read some of the writing on the labels sometimes though!
Comment by BG and Gavin on May 1, 2012 at 8:11pm We have an inexpensive dehydrator and make our own sweet potato chews. Gavin is crazy about them. They are cheap and easy to make and above all safe. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I am sorry that your lab had problems.
Comment by Colleen, Jake & Baxter on May 1, 2012 at 7:08pm I try to warn people at the store too sometimes.....and, most of the time they think I am nutty too :)
Comment by F, Calla & Luca on May 1, 2012 at 6:26pm How sad that this stuff continues to be imported and make pets ill.
Thanks!
Comment by Ricki and Tara (doodle) on May 1, 2012 at 4:27pm So glad Kuriboh is okay!!! It is just ridiculous how long this problem has been going on! :( Thanks for the update and reminder.
Comment by Karen & Jackdoodle on May 1, 2012 at 4:10pm We have a recall section in The Food Group, as well as lots of information on good treats as well as treats to avoid.
My chihuahua has kidney disease because of treats from china - his contamination happened 5 years ago in 2007!!!!!!!!!!! They are still having issues, clearly. Thanks for bringing this important topic up again - be careful what you feed your dogs!
