Comment by jessica (Rufus) on September 9, 2012 at 5:06pm Hi. I just got your message. Sorry to hear about Rufus. So far, since discovering Axl tested positive for Lyme, he's been okay. However, today he had a lump removed from his side/rib area & have to wait 5-7 days for the additional pathology to come back :-( I don't think its related to the Lyme, though.
Swollen joints can usually be noticed if the dog is favoring a paw or reacts when he/she jumps off the sofa, for example (if you let him on the sofa...), or if he reacts when you feel his legs & paws through the fur. I think we have to wait another few months before we can get Axl the lyme vaccine. I could have sworn he was vaccinated as a puppy. Apparently not... But he's now wearing a flea & tick collar recommended by the vet & still has frontline or something similar applied monthly.
Hopefully Rufus doesn't have any long term side effects from the lyme disease. Good luck!

Comment by F, Calla & Luca on July 7, 2012 at 12:15pm I am sorry to hear your news but if you catch the disease early all may be fine. As for joint, get used to feeling your dogs knees and elbows and any other accessible joints. You ay be able to feel changes should they occur.
