Glad you are both Ok- I often wonder what would happen if Chester encountered one..

I agree that you were lucky it wasn't a pack of Coyotes. Here in Nova Scotia there have been stories of  Packs of Coyotes taking down deer and an Injuring a German Sheppard. There was also a horrible attack on a young women a few years ago where she died. There is now a Cull on Coyotes in our province.Apparently our Coyotes have been crossed with wolves..

Wildlife warnings

Coyotes can be found in rural and urban area across Canada. They often shy away from humans, but if one does approach, here's what to do:

• Be aggressive yourself: Wave your arms, stomp and yell loudly in a deep voice to deter it from coming closer.
• Stand your ground: Stay where you are and look it in the eye. Never run away; it is more likely to consider you prey, give chase and seriously harm you.
• Be prepared: The best defence is a good offence; carry a whistle, flashlight and/or personal alarm. This is especially important for small children who play outside or walk to school in areas where coyotes have been spotted.
• Stay together: If you are walking in an area that has high coyote activity, never do so without a companion.
• Don't lure them with food: Coyotes are scavengers. If you have pets, feed them inside the house rather than leaving food outside, don’t leave meat scraps or products in compost buckets outside your house, keep regular compost in an enclosed area and ensure garbage bins have tight resealable lids to keep out animals.

I'm glad he made it back to safety.  It's possibly that it would have gone well, but I'm glad you didn't stick around to find out.

Glad Camus is okay!!  Coyotes scare the tar out of me, mainly because Peri is a mini and Taquito is a chihuahua - they have been jumping fences and snatching toy breeds in my neighborhood...YUCK

This, I guess, is the advantage to NOT having a fenced in yard and NOT being able to let Daisy out on her own. Scary stuff.

Thank you for your comments. They made me smile. Now this story sounds funny, but at that moment I was really scared, I knew that coyotes attack and kill small dogs, but I wasn't sure what they would do to a big and friendly one. I think we were lucky that it was just one coyote, not a pack.

Since coyotes are also canines, I suspect the invitation to play was familiar to this one. If it was intrigued, it wasn't going to attack Camus, I don't think. I understand why you were scared, but I can imagine Camus might have pulled this one off. It's going to be one of those indelible memories for you and a great story forever.

OMD!  I would have been terrified but with Camus' response, it must have also been very cute!  Somehow I don't think a Ned/coyote or a Clancy/coyote could ever be a cute thing.
