One early morning Camus met a coyote...and invited him/her to play. 8-0
It was still dark and when an animal ran across a big grassy area I thought it was a dog, but there was no human around. Camus ran after the animal wagging his tail. When a coyote stopped, Camus made a bow and invited him to play. The coyote stopped intrigued and stared at Camus until I grabbed my pup and walked away. I was the only one who got scared, I guess. Silly, silly and friendly Camus!

I agree that you were lucky it wasn't a pack of Coyotes. Here in Nova Scotia there have been stories of Packs of Coyotes taking down deer and an Injuring a German Sheppard. There was also a horrible attack on a young women a few years ago where she died. There is now a Cull on Coyotes in our province.Apparently our Coyotes have been crossed with wolves..
I think I would panic if I ever saw them I would Panic-
Here is the how to handle from Our DNR
Coyotes can be found in rural and urban area across Canada. They often shy away from humans, but if one does approach, here's what to do:
Comment by Leslie and Halas on April 24, 2012 at 8:54am I'm glad he made it back to safety. It's possibly that it would have gone well, but I'm glad you didn't stick around to find out.
Glad Camus is okay!! Coyotes scare the tar out of me, mainly because Peri is a mini and Taquito is a chihuahua - they have been jumping fences and snatching toy breeds in my neighborhood...YUCK
Comment by Lisa and Daisy Doodle on April 23, 2012 at 5:49am This, I guess, is the advantage to NOT having a fenced in yard and NOT being able to let Daisy out on her own. Scary stuff.
Thank you for your comments. They made me smile. Now this story sounds funny, but at that moment I was really scared, I knew that coyotes attack and kill small dogs, but I wasn't sure what they would do to a big and friendly one. I think we were lucky that it was just one coyote, not a pack.
Since coyotes are also canines, I suspect the invitation to play was familiar to this one. If it was intrigued, it wasn't going to attack Camus, I don't think. I understand why you were scared, but I can imagine Camus might have pulled this one off. It's going to be one of those indelible memories for you and a great story forever.

Comment by Nancy, Ned, and Clancy on April 22, 2012 at 7:46pm OMD! I would have been terrified but with Camus' response, it must have also been very cute! Somehow I don't think a Ned/coyote or a Clancy/coyote could ever be a cute thing.
Or should that be don't talk to strange THINGS in the dark!
Camus! Don't talk to strange people! Especially in the dark!
