Duke and I have started obedience class. Oh my, we have learned our flaws in that Duke can't walk and accept a treat at the same time. I am uncoordinated to click, hold a leash and give a treat at the same time. We are a perfect match. I also learned you don't feed a dood before class, as they work much harder for a treat when they are hungry. We will practice to become more multi-tasking.
I had the same problem, plus a puppy that was not treat motivated. She will do more for praise than a treat, GOOD GIRL was her treat. Good luck with classes, this is as much a learning process for you as it is for Duke.
This is funny, because I had the same problem. I had to trade in the clicker because I just couldn't do it all quick enough. Coordination is clearly not my strength. I always thought the others in class were getting a real kick out of watching me. The trainer suggested I substitute an immediate "high pitched YES" for the click, and things got much better. Good luck, and have fun!
