Good thoughts, Allyson. Basically, everyone says that MY stress level is the biggest influence on my dog's stress level, and I agree. Just have to 'go with the flow' and scram! Thanks for your input.

Thank you, Natasha. If you've read the other suggestions, someone else suggested putting the luggage in the car beforehand, but I like your suggestion to do it hours ahead of time, so he doesn't associate it with my leaving. I also have to focus on…

Our boarding kennel has a few rules (guidelines, but they call them rules) for dropping off your pet that I think you can apply to your situation: -Your dog stays in the car until all paperwork is finalized and all food and toys have been given to…

Thanks Eva. I liked your suggestions. The first one's easy to do, the second one not so easy (which may be why he's anxious in the first place). I'll really work on that one. Going to Santa Fe with my daughter - really looking forward to spending so…

Thanks, Judi. I've boarded Angus at a kennel several times, for one or two days. He was very familiar with the place, having gone many times for daycare (for socialization) and he loved going there, so that was ok, but only for one or two days. I kn…

Thanks for your input. I, too, think dogs have a better sense of time than we think they do. Giving him an article of clothing I've worn is a great idea - I'll do that. I really think I'm going to suffer more separation anxiety than he will! In any…

Thanks, Sally. Good thoughts. I particularly like the suggestion about getting the luggage out of the house without him seeing it (not to mention running around packing it). Your Duncan looks a lot like Angus. He's a mini goldendoodle (going on 3) a…

Tell him you'll be back and let him sleep with an old t-shirt of yours. Try not to project your anxieties onto him, and enjoy your trip!

Profile Information

About Me:
I am a first- time dog owner; was persuaded by my (adult) children to get a dog, a year after my son got a goldendoodle of his own. Couldn't help myself. I am so pleased with the dog I got from the Paw Pad; he's everything Christine said he would be and more. I spent many hours training him and just being with him and it has paid off; he's absolutely delightful.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
He's an F1 mini goldendoodle named Angus. My son's standard doodle (Walnut) is 2 (one yr. older than mine), and he spends most days at my house while my son is working. I have a huge yard with over an acre fenced with invisible fencing and they play together all day. I've been bringing him to a wonderful daycare once a week or so for socialization. He loves it. Also, my town has an extensive network of wooded trails where he walks almost daily off leash. He's got a great life, and he has certainly enhanced mine!
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
My daughter-in-law has allergies, so they got a goldendoodle, so I did also.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
Walking, throwing a ball (endlessly, indoor and out), and just interacting with him in general. He is really bonded to me and follows me everywhere. We also have lots of fun just watching the two dogs play together.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
A little bit but nothing major
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
Janet Simon of Janet's Doggie Daycare in Dartmouth
Favorite Doodle Products?
none

Hey Susan,
Angus is adorable! Hurley isn't our first dog. We adopted a lab/shepherd mix (Cody) years ago from the humane society. He passed away 5 years ago. We had a trainer come and help us during Cody's puppy stage and it really helped alot. He was an energetic, fun, nippy puppy who really turned out to be such a sweet, calm, loving family pet. We're really having alot of fun with Hurley and it's nice to know the nipping, chewing, and potty mistakes don't last too long!

Hi Susan, Angus is so cute. We got Barley from Christine too, he is one of Rubbi and Jocques. Barley is about 9 weeks old now, so he is quite a handful! I see he is a F1 mini, how big is he?

Hi Susan - thanks for the comment! I love pic #33 too!! I took that myself so I had to laugh - it's true what they say about looking like your dogs!!!! Angus is just beautiful and I know you're loving having him in your world!!! I can't imagine lift without dogs!!! Bentley will be 1 yr. on the 18th and it's been great! He and Charlie are the best of friends and we have a ball hiking, walking and swimming here in the mtns.

You're invited to join our group.

"Single Chicks of Doodle Kisses"- Where Men are Dogs and Dogs are Men. I thought it was a cute, fun, comical catch phrase and a way to connect with other single female Doodle owners.....

A place to laugh, vent, share and discuss why sometimes hanging with your Doodle is more fun than hanging with those of the opposite sex.

Angus is too cute! It looks like he and my Lucy both have that wonderful red coat. Don't you find that dogs change your life in such a positive way?

Hi Susan, My Beckett is a mini english goldendoodle from Paw Pad. He's almost 6 mon. old. He weights about 20 lbs. His parents are Lola and Ziggy. He is a joy too! They are the smartest little dogs. He misses me now that school has started. He cries when I get home from work! I feel so bad :( He's such a sweetie. Angus is adorable too. I love Christine's pups!
