The Simple Human Butterfly can is the best trash can (for humans and for dogs). Rouser is 27.5 inches at the withers and, while he has figured out how to step on the foot pad, it is too tall for him to get anything out of the can while still keeping…

I tried the pennies in the soda can thingy to attempt to stop Harlow's counter surfing. Here is a picture of how well it kept her from surfing. =)

We have been through the same issue. I have the very best and inexpensive solution. Go to the baby section at Walmart and purchase one of the devices used to keep kids out of the fridge or toilet seat. It is a plastic latch and solves the problem co…

We have not been able to break Ned of trash digging. He has trained us to make sure the pantry and bathroom doors are closed. The wastebaskets in the laundry and our bedrooms stylishly sit on top of the dresser or counter. I have heard that dogs hat…

Second vote here for putting the trash under the sink cupboard.....save yourself the worry of silly Oli getting into something that will make him sick. Our doodle would have been into the garbage all the time when he was nine months old. If you can'…

Yikes, that is one smart doodle !!! I guess we will wait and see....

We have one of those under counter rollout trash bin thingies. We still had to put a child-proof lock on the cabinet door to keep Sherlock out of the trash.

We keep our trash can under the sink. As long as Chewie doesn't start opening cabinets we should be safe.

I have the stainless steel round can also with lid and foot pedal. Works nicely- Tucker can't open it.

When we got Charlie, I bought a nice, a bit pricy stainless steel trash can, because I figure that she will be tall enough to nudge the lid to open up the cheap, plastic, and shorter trash can we had . I also have a baby gate to the kitchen, so they…

Charlie did this too, amazing how smart they are. We started placing noisy objects on the lid so that they fell if he was in action when we weren't looking. It worked. Our bathroom doors are always closed too, otherwise, it's toilet paper and garbag…

Oliver or did you say his name was Oscar? Just get a large trash can with a lid. You will have to work to get the lid off but you won't have to bend over and pick up trash or bend over and wash the dog. It's a trade off. This would be safer for you…

Nugget used to do this. When she was a pup, we used empty soda cans with pennies in it for things like this. (We still use them from time to time.) Our trainer got us using them and they were very effective. We washed out soda cans, put about 10 pen…

Trash smells good to a dog. If you own a remote controlled citronella spray collar, you can use it to deter him from touching the trash can. That worked really well with one of my dogs who also likes to empty trash cans and roll in the rotting stuff…

Oliver (9 months) keeps opening the kitchen trash can - we have tried turning it around to face the wall (its the kind with the foot petal) but he is still doing it.  Suggestions?

Ollie Goes to the Lake

Happy Fourth of July. Ollie is 11 weeks old and we just got back from spending the holiday weekend at the lake. It was a 2 hour drive and he sat between 2 of my kids on the very back seat of the minivan and just slept both ways. I was a little worried what we would do when we got there since he hasn't had all his shots and we were limited in where we could take him but somehow it didnt end up being a problem. We took him out on the boat and stopped at a little island and took him and Charlotte (… Continue

Oliver's first week with us

I have never written a blog but I have lots to say about Ollie's first week home and thought this would be a good way to document. He is 9 weeks old and absolutely awesome. I researched and read a ton before he came home and was worried about so many things but so far - biggest challenge is the bathroom thing - more on that later.

First - things I am happy about: he doesn't mind his crate - we try to only put him in when he is sleepy or tired out and then he is fine -and sleeps. At night - he g… Continue

Hi Stacey! I just read your post about your breeder and Ollie's hip dysplasia. I'm so sorry to hear about it! Can I ask you a question? Was wondering what size a doodle Ollie is? Is he a mini or a standard? Just wondering......? Thank you for being such a responsible pet owner and doing the right thing. I admire you for contacting your breeder and being so nice about it. Most of all I admire the fact that you planned for health issues and got pet insurance! Good thinking! Ollie has a very good home! I'm happy for him and hope the treatment you are able to give him will help his hips so he can live a long pain free, healthy life!

How about that Stacey, Ollie is just one day younger than Penny. Have you read my other blogs? I post one every week. Penny's not a heat lover, and spends a lot of her time actually laying on the AC vents, totally covering them, what strange puppy. I wonder if she'll enjoy the hot air come winter?

Stacey,
Never give up!! Remember when you thought your babies would never grow out that stage? Then all of a sudden just when you thought you might pull every hair out of your head, then are out of that stage and into a new one.
He is just 3 months old and still learning what we want. It will get better! Just keep repeating that - I chant it a million times a day!!!
Have a fantastic weekend!!

He should be fed 3 times a day as much as he wants....Your boy is from standard large parents and will be going though growth spurts and is probably in one now....If he cleans up a bowl offer some more until you figure out how much he can and wants to eat. He will not get over weight or fat at this age, as an adult that is another matter....I'm sure your kids are giving him plenty of excercise....he will burn it off playing and growing, just like a child...

FEED HIM! :)
