Agression

Hi all.  I haven’t been around much lately so I apologize.  Penny, of all dogs!, is showing agression towards our 16 1/2 year old beagle/basset.  She’s always teased and tormented her (just like a kid does) because she gets a reaction out of Suzy.  Suzy is deaf and therefore “sees” the world differently than a hearing dog.  Lately, Penny’s teasing/tormenting has turned into agression towards little Suzy.  Yesterday, Penny picked Suzy up (grabbed on to the winter coat she had on) and shook her like a rag doll.  Suzy was unharmed (but scared to death) but Penny shook her head side-to-side 3 times before I could intervene.  I grabbed onto Penny to stop the altercation.  At the same time, our alpha dog, Lexi, was trying to discipline Penny.  It was a free-for-all.  Most of the fights Penny and Suzy get into are either in the kitchen or near the kitchen (where Penny is fed).  There has never been any biting, just serious “discussions” in the form of growling and screaming.  I wanna think…See More

About Me:
I live in Missouri, along with my husband and our 3 "girls". I'm a huge Cardinals fan; hubby is huge Blues fan. I absolutely cannot tolerate winter...hate it, hate it, hate it! Did I happen to say I hate it? I am an amateur photographer. I'm an avid swimmer and also walk for exercise. I love doing the NY Times crossword puzzle (the harder the more challenging!) and play Scrabble. We are Zoo members so we visit the elephants and big cats (our favorites ) a lot. My two most favorite places in the world: Florida and Hawaii.
(We are empty nesters so our dogs are our "babies").
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!

She has very wavy hair. We also have two other dogs (stray rescues): Lexi and Suzy. Suzy is older and tries to ignore the puppy. Lexi plays with Penny all the time. Penny gets together w/her brother, Jeter, for regular playdates.

Got a question for you since you live in Mo.  We are going to my husband's family reunion this July and taking Picco.  It will be in Perryville/Womack area, in the woods.  Do you have any advice for tick protection?  We are on Heartguard in the summers but wondering if you have experience with some application that may work for prevention?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Lol! They were trained from an early age. If they sit, they get good treats. It's not a guarantee though, just like children, if they don't want to, they don't.

Hi Sally, Thank you so much for your nice message. My sister hated the name Fudge and went on and on that it sounded like a bad word :) LOL It made me all the more determined to use that name. Welcome to DK. We recently moved so I have not been writing as much, but I hope to get back in the swing of things soon. I truly appreciate your kind words. Laurie

Evil Christmas Lights

Posted on December 5, 2016 at 1:17pm 11 Comments

The other day I opened a cardboard box that came in the mail. The noise scared Penny. She's really getting weird lately. When I took the makeup mirror out of the box, it became her worst enemy and she barked at it something fierce. I was holding it in my hand and it freaked her out.

That's nothing compared to the Christmas lights. We bought one of those red/green laser light contraptions that put spots on your house. We stuck the thing in our yard and well, Penny didn't take too… Continue

Popcorn, an Earthworm and a Butterfly

Posted on September 22, 2016 at 1:30pm 5 Comments

What do these items have in common? Nothing really, except they had recent encounters with our puppy, Penny.

Prior to adopting Penny, we hadn't had a puppy in the family for 10 years. We had forgotten how much fun puppies were and how comical they are! Penny keeps us cracking up all the time.

The other night, DH was eating popcorn. He tossed a kernel in the air to Penny and it landed on the top of her head. And there it sat, "forever". If you have seen photos of Penny, you… Continue

The Shave

Posted on July 9, 2016 at 6:17pm 5 Comments

Penny went to the groomer, again, this morning. It's been extremely hot, humid and rainy here. She was getting too hot with her heavy coat of hair. Because of the dampness and mud, she had mats that needed to be addressed.

Penny's pretty good while at the groomer, however, they had to give her a time-out today. She was fussing when they were trying to dry and trim her face so they had to take her in the back to let her "de-stress". That's a first. She probably caught a glimpse of… Continue

Vacation

Posted on June 29, 2016 at 6:00pm 9 Comments

Before we went to Florida on vacation, we had 3 dogs who adored us. Now we have 3 strangers living with us.

Suzy is still sort of lovable towards us but she barked so much at the kennel that she's hoarse and her howling sounds like something similar to a diesel train. I'm like, "Where is that sound coming from? OMD, it's from our Suzy!".

Lexi is hoarse also but the way she's treating us is the most surprising. She's always been extremely devoted to me...my dog. Now she's… Continue
