Lacey attended her first Doodle Romp

I spent yesterday making sure both the girls were brushed out and looking their prettiest for today's romp. Then today I packed the car with water bowl, brush, car seat cover and towels... lots of towels since both girls have a tendency to get car sick. Amazingly enough neither one of them got sick on the ride to the romp (this was the first of the firsts today). This was Lacey's first 4th of July with us and I was not sure how she would react. She is so scared of everything that I feared the worst. I didn't know if she would panic in the house or not (I definitely knew I was not going to let her outside during the "action"). We did not attended either of the fireworks shows that take place near us this year because I was too tired from a 10k race in the morning. Yep, that's right, she has a forever family. This morning Ginger and I met her new mom, Kathie, new dad, Mac and big brother, Laser (yellow lab). Her new family had just spent two days driving from MA to just north of Atlanta. Ginger is so lucky that her entire family is retired (even Laser is a retired service dog) and everyone will be together 24x7. Her 2 footer sibs are all grown with fur kids of their own so Laser and Ginger have their parents all to themselves. Ginger doesn't know yet,…

- About Me:
- We are semi-empty nesters and have discovered we have more 'empty time' now (no more girl scouts, band, soccer etc.) that our girls (23 & 30) are grown. Our oldest daughter lives in Northern Ireland, but the younger one still lives at home while attending college. Eons ago, before children :o} we showed English Setters and Pointers. When children came along we 'down sized' to smaller less grooming intensive dogs, but never lost that soft spot for the big 'ol bird dogs.
- What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
- Harlow is our very first doodle though we have always had at least 2 dogs (and cats) our whole lives. In July Lacey (formerly Lucy) came to stay with us as a DRC foster, but worked her way into our hearts and became an official family member Labor Day weekend. Along with the "doodle girls" we have Baxter our 12 year old Beagle and our kitties, Cleo (7) and Tessa (1).
- Where did you get your doodle(s)?
- Breeder, Rescue
- Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
- We have been interested in doodles for quite a while and have been very impressed with every doodle we have met while walking our two 9 year old beagles (the Boys). The more research we did on the breed the more we fell under their spell. For over a year we said 'when the boys go off to the happy hunting grounds, we will get a Labradoodle'.
As it turns out it wasn't the passing of either of our boys, but our 14 year old cat, Pokie, that helped us make the decision to get a Labradoodle now, rather than wait. It was the best thing we ever did.
- What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
- Fetching Frisbees and tennis balls, snuggling and puppy kisses.
- Does your doodle(s) shed?
- Nope!
- Who grooms your doodle(s)?
- Groomer every 6 weeks and me in between
- Favorite Doodle Products?
- Kong, Hide A Squirrel, Tennis balls and 'flat' pig and Elk antlers.
