Ruezy is now an 11 month old Goldendoodle who weighs about 50 pounds. I started out with a resolve to NEVER give my dog anything but non-edible nylabones and treats. Then I gave into a present from a young friend of mine for some organic pressed raw…

You need to watch which Nylabones you get. The softer ones (clear) are easily chewed up but the others are for tough chewers. My dogs have nylabones that last forever and look pretty nasty, but they enjoy chewing on them. They also like the hollow b…

I just received mine and I'm listening o happy chewing as I type.

That sounds too small to me. It might be fine for a small dog or puppy, but I would hate to give bad advice that might hurt a dog. The bones I give Jack are big- about 5-6 inches long and about 3 inches in diameter. He can't get to the center of the…

Karen- does that mean that cooked marrow bones are okay? I sometimes add one which is about 3" in diameter and 1" wide into my stew pot. Does that sound safe?
November 12, 2009
Beef marrow bones are the exception to the "no cooked bones" rule. Even after 6 hours in a stew pot, they are like petrified wood.

Typically the main issue is that the bones can splinter after being cooked. Unless they are SOOOO soft (maybe after overnight in a slow cooker??) that they kinda melt in the dog's mouth, cooked bones can be a physical hazard to their GI tract.

While this topic is here- is it okay to give dogs leftover bones? When I was a kid we used to give our dog beef bones (cooked, left over from dinner) all the time. We had ribs a few nights ago and my husband was about to give Cocoa one of the bones…

Willy loves ELK ANTLERS. They last a long time, he has two that he's been chewing on for over a month. Also the Sterilized bones lashave great staying power.

We have several Nylabones...it probably depends on the dog and how they chew things up. Ours have lasted forever.

I'm afraid to use Nylabone. I hear so much about it... :-( Charlie likes Elk antelers. It does not break off or sprint, nor smell. Also long lasting.

You can also have the butcher cut marrow bones for you & sterilize them yourself in the microwave; then your doodle gets all the benefits of the yummy marrow, too.

I don't give my dogs any bones, other than a nylabone, they get other kinds of dog treats that I think are safer and better for them. Seen a few dogs with bones stuck in their K9's and owners having a difficult time removing them from their dogs mou…

Profile Information

About Me:
I am 43 years old with 3 children, who are in their teens. I love animals (some say more than people, ha ha), and my dogs are my pride and joy. As my "nest" is emptying of kids, my husband swears I am replacing them with the dogs. Not far from the truth!! They have filled a void in my life for which I am grateful.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
I have 2 goldendoodles...Jaxon and Riley. They are big and boisterous and the love of my life. They are 16 months old and about 75 lbs each. After bringing Jaxon home, I decided to get another from the same litter. Riley was one of the last to be adopted and I fell in love with him too. Having 2 puppies was/is a lot of work, but they are so good for each other, I'm glad we did it this way. We have 2 cats also, who aren't too sure about them still!
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
I stumbled across them on the internet, shortly after the death of my other dog Barkley, and I fell instantly in love with them and decided that would be our next dog. I did a lot of reading and research before deciding on when and where I was going to get them.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
Walk, walk , walk! I am fortunate that I live in an area where I can take my boys off leash through trails and beaches. They love it.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
A little bit but nothing major
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
Our groomer
Favorite Doodle Products?
They love playing tug of war with each other with "skinny rabbit" and rope knots. They have a fettish for my bras which they always find in the laundry LOL

What beautiful dogs you have! You are so lucky to have 2 of them. They look so happy together.
I was at a dog park the other day, when it just so happened that 2 owners who had never met before found out there 2.5 year old dogs were brother and sister. The dogs were inseparable. It was like after all this time they knew they were litter mates. :

Nina - I know what you mean about the dogs filling a void in your life. I feel the same way but most people don't understand that. Do you have a problem telling the two of your doodles apart. They look so much alike. Fergie and Lucy will grow up to be very similar too. Already I'm starting to have to look twice to know who's who.. I bet other people can't tell them apart??

Well....we couldn't be much further apart geographically! But with doodle in our hearts and homes, it's like we are neighbors! I can describe Texas to you in one word....HOT! =) I have lived a lot of places, my dad was military so I grew up all over...including Germany. Been in Texas for 30 years now....so it must be ok. We live in central Texas....known as "the hill country" and it is a really nice part of the state....with lots of water all around....which helps with the heat!
