New doodle puppy - mouthing

Started this discussion. Last reply by Frank & TeddyToyDoodle Jan 5. 16 Replies

We just brought home a sweet new goldendoodle puppy. I know mouthing is perfectly normal and we are training him using a positive approach, but he doesn't seem to respond to "yelps" when he mouths…Continue

"My doodle is 8 months old and for the first time is matting. He is usually pretty good for me while I brush him but the last few weeks has been acting up and won't let me brush under his belly or his legs. Of course the parts that need it most.…"

"I can relate to everything you are going through right now. Looking back, Maisy's behavior seemed to be at its worst at 4-5 months of age. She began teething, was still nipping at times, and seemed to be challenging us a lot more. By six months…"

18 weeks - what to expect?

Our boy Caspian is 18 weeks old. He had begun to mellow a little at the 16 week mark, but now has turned a corner and is crazy! I've heard people say there's a phase they go through where they are more stubborn and will test you more. Is that around this age? Also, he had really mellowed in his mouth I was, but has picked up a lot on that as well. I'm having to crate him more than I usually do.

"One of our fosters was a master at chewing the harness while we were driving her in the car, so I feel your pain.  I would use this type of leash for now as they can't chew the chain."

"He may also be teething, and chewing helps relieve his sore gums. Make sure he has plenty of good safe chew toys.  One thing that may help: Take an old washrag, soak it in water, wring it out, tie it in a big knot, and put it in the freezer.…"

Over excitable doodle

Our puppy is 12 weeks old. I'm just wondering how much exercise he should be getting at this age? Also, when I take him out in the fenced in area to work with him or play with him he gets so overexcited. He then jumps at me (or anyone who enters the yard) jumping and biting. He's gotten some pretty good bites in with those puppy teeth. He has also started biting and trying to play tug with the leash whenever I take him out. Any suggestions?

I would get him a plastic coated wire leash. Or put sour apple on any leash so he won't like the taste.
