Emily & Wispa replied to Kerrie's discussion Puppy training issue--Opinions needed!! in the group Puppy Madness
"Guarding leads to aggression in a lot of cases, so if she learns this at her current age it might be hard to conquer later.  Try doing the exchange for treats at home for a week every day, then start doing it in the park or with otehr…"

Kerrie replied to Kerrie's discussion Puppy training issue--Opinions needed!! in the group Puppy Madness
"Yeah, I figured I would just monitor it and then see--the trainer is the one who made me feel paranoid about it. She once saw Elly growl and then she took away the toy from her and gave her a treat; that was all. When I told her it happened a couple…"

John and Finn replied to Kerrie's discussion Puppy training issue--Opinions needed!! in the group Puppy Madness
"Well it only becomes an issue if the growling turns into aggression.  Finn plays with an adult dog who growls at him the same way but he is all bark no bite.  He also gets into pretty aggressive play fight sessions with his buddy where…"

"How about taking the toy away and exchanging it with a yummy treat- then giving the toy back. We did this exercise in class with toys and bones and exchanged them with bits if cheese or hotdogs"

Puppy training issue--Opinions needed!!

Elly is 4 and a half months now. She knows her basic commands but I enrolled her in puppy classes cause there's always a lot more that we can learn. She also does puppy play dates with this trainer and I bring her to the dog park a lot to get the socialization she needs.Recently, I noticed that she has started to get possessive with certain toys-- they don't have to be hers per say,(this happened at a friends house and at puppy play date and they were not Elly's toys) but once she has her hands…See More

Sue & Lily Grace replied to Kerrie's discussion To continue to crate or not to crate............ in the group Puppy Madness
"The continuation of keeping the dog comfortable in a crate is also so very important when a dog has to be kept at the vets, surgeries, and grooming. Because Cassie was never crated, it was very stressful for her during so many of her medical…"

Nicky, Riley & Boris replied to Kerrie's discussion To continue to crate or not to crate............ in the group Puppy Madness
"Keeping the crate as a safe haven is so useful especially later on.  I leave the door open and Riley goes in and out of it all day.  If I want to close the door (for example) if we have people going in and out of the house and the front…"

Haha, how funny.  I read my goldendoodle, Elly, is 13....and I thought "Wow, I didn't know goldendoodles had been around that long."  Then I looked on your page and saw 13 WEEKS.  That's more like it.

Yes, puppyhood can drive you crazy!  Good thing they are just so darn cute! LOL  Charlie is now 1 yr 8 mos and 39 lbs.  He is considered a medium ALD.  We recently put a deposit down on another litter which was born 8/5/12, so he may be getting a brother or sister.  The father of the litter is also Charlie's sire, so I guess that would make them half-siblings.  I am a little apprehensive about it as we have never had two dogs at one time. Charlie is very laid back and just loves people so I hope this will be a good thing for him too!

Enjoy your "little" doodle.  I think she is going to be a big beautiful girl!
