"Just found his: ELISA tests can show positive for giardia for up to 6 months after treatment because it can take that long for the antigens to be cleared from the animal's bloodstream"

Karen & Jackdoodle replied to Dolly Dykhouse's discussion Henry, Giardia and now Coccidia in the group Health and Medical Issues (for our pets)
"It's my understanding that once they have had giardia, the ELISA test is always going to come back positive because of giardia antibodies, even if the dog doesn't have it. I think that's probably the case with your guy. That's…"

Karen & Jackdoodle replied to Hillary O's discussion Feedings for a puppy 11weeks in the group The Food Group
"Usually around 4 months or so, but the dog will usually let you know. They may start losing interest in that middle meal or their dinner, and that can be a sign that they're ready to go to two feedings per day. "

Karen & Jackdoodle replied to Hillary O's discussion Feedings for a puppy 11weeks in the group The Food Group
"Three times a day sounds right for an 11 week old. The amount is going to vary depending on the formula you're feeding, so following the guidelines on the bag for the amount per day is the best option. "

Karen & Jackdoodle replied to Kim Starbuck's discussion Flea/tick medication
"Ivermectin is completely unrelated to flea & tick preventatives. However, Heartguard Plus contains other ingredients besides ivermectin, so if she has had a reaction to it, it might be one of the other ingredients causing the problem. "
Karen & Jackdoodle replied to Kim Starbuck's discussion Flea/tick medication
"Yep, there is no more Frontline Plus. I was nervous about the new Frontline Gold, because it contains a third ingredient that wasn't in Frontline Plus, but JD had no reaction to it. "

F1 standard male, "Jackdoodle" born 11-28-2004. 80 lbs, apricot, adopted from a shelter in January 2006 at 14 months old.
From the day I brought him home, he has never had an accident, never chewed or damaged anything, never taken food from the counter, never gone in the garbage, never bothered the cat. He is absolutely phenomenal with children...a stroller coming down the street gets his tail going in circles. He sheds like crazy, and has lots of medical & psychological issues, but he is an exceptionally good boy.

Rest in Peace Dinah 3/17/94 - 8/5/11
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
I really did not choose, or particularly want, a doodle. But when I saw him at the shelter, I just couldn't leave him in that cage! He looked so sad.
Really cute, really sweet, he needed me and I needed him.

Sheila's Birthday Poem for Jackdoodle 11-28-12

Today is the birthday of good ole' Jackdoodle.

He's such a handsome guy cause he's mixed with a poodle.

With his big brown eyes, and his cold wet nose,

his messy kind of hair, it all really goes.

He has a wiggley butt when he's a wagging that tail,

puts a smile on Karen's face every time without fail.

So on this special day, a day that's all your own,

hope your tail is a spinning and mom treats you with a bone.

Happy Birthday Jackdoodle !

HUGS !! Finnley and Sheila

Sheila's poem for JD's 10th Birthday 11-28-14
Today Jack Doodle is turning 10,

A decade to count upon, then we'll start all over again .

His big wet nose, and his long golden hair,

he's a kind, and gentle doodle, with nary a care.

Ten years of ball chasing, and long happy walks.

Only the best kibble to eat, but Jack never balks

So many cuddles, and snuggles too, with his mom, her name is Karen

she loves him through and through.

So raise a biscuit high, as we salute our good friend Jack.

The epitome of doodleness, a number one class act !

Bummer. Wishing you luck in finding something compatible for him soon. Olive's paw seems better today already, thanks! She has stopped limping and it looks less red and raw where the vet shaved her, unnecessarily.

Hi Karen !

My friend karma told me to connect with u! I have been having challenges with my dood . Found out just a few months ago that he has ibs. :( do you know a lot about this disease? Oliver is currently taking metrozidazal (antibiotic) which I guess helps ibs and also if he picked up bacteria or a parasite it is suppose to address that. Two days ago poor boy pooped with mucus on his stools and then later the same day he just pooped mucus :/ I was like ahh this isn't good... so called the doc and vet said try this med for three days and see how he does. So yesterday started him on turkey burger and rice three times a day and the meds and the. Today going to keep doing it. He hasn't went poop today :/ and seems like his nose is a bit warm but still wet. He has energy .. ahhh I get nervous bc last summer he was really sick and it was a scare. He lost 15pounds in two weeks time and had vomiting and direah ... did lots of tests and nothing showed up.. just white blood count was a bit low. After doing everything we fed him turkey and rice for over a week and finally turned around plus changed his dog food to acana highlands ranch blend that's beef and pork and seemed the to do fine... sooooo who knows now what he picked up .. I know he had horse poop last week and I took him to cherry creek .. so he could have ghiarda

Ugh! Frustrating! I'm not going to rewrite all that! Lol. On the recommended food list - do the brands start out as the best at the top and go down from there in quality?

I forgot to ask you about the fish oil before:) The NaturesMade softgels are ok? If they are, how much a day?

Hi Karen!

I wanted to give you an update on Bella with the food switch:) She is doing great on it and had a smooth (no tummy problems) transition to the Fromm Gold line. I haven't noticed a difference with her coat or anything like that. (which I am not worried about since her coat was always soft:) I can still see that the itching is about the same,(It hasn't been bad lately) but the paw licking has pretty much stopped. Will it just take time to see any "changes" with the itching?

Thank You for helping me with switching her to a better food:)

P.S. I think it was in the recent Acana discussion that you said there was a Pet Supplies Plus near you? That was the pet store that we went to in FL, and only thought that they were down south. I have been looking EVERYWHERE for a store! I have to look on the website to see if there are any near me:)

Thanks Karen for your response to my food question awhile back. What food do you feed your doodle(s)? I'm trying to wean Forest off Prescription Hills Diet i/d even though he had perfect stool on that food, back to Candidae. It's not good anymore. Boo!
