Just wanted to pass this along.  Rooney has allergy issues and we give him a Zyrtec every day to help but it does not relieve his itchy paws.  We catch him licking his front feet and despite…Continue

Jane, any word?????

Hi Jane...tried to send this as a message about the e-fence but for some reason I can't send a message today! I saw in one of your posts that Rooney had some difficulty at first that sounds alot like what my Charlie is going through. Charlie is also a mini ALD at 23 lbs. We also got the Dog Watch fence. It was installed last Friday. When the trainer worked with Charlie at first he didn't have any reaction to the fence. So he ended up with the collar set at level 2. Charlie felt the zap once and immediately retreated back. But he was getting a little anxious being outside. On Saturday when I was working with Charlie he got zapped again. Then he didn't want to be outside at all. He spent Saturday afternoon at my mother's house and I didn't take him out for training that night. I put the collar back to just the tone. Sunday when I took him out in the yard, he wouldn't get off of the patio. He was petrified. I had to drag him off the porch. I tried to play with him in the yard but he wouldn't move. I finally got him to come to me in the middle of the yard but once he came he would just stand there like a statue. I didn't even put his leash on him. We tried playing ball with him but he just stood there looking pathetic. Monday I tried not putting the Dog Watch collar on him at all and taking him outside, but the same thing. The trainer suggested just keeping taking him outside into the safe area and trying to get him to play and if not just to try to get him to walk around with me. He said that eventually Charlie will realize the safe area is ok. So anyway, after all this long story, I guess my question to you is...How did you get Rooney to get over his fear of going outside? And do you have any advice for me? I was going to post this in the forum but right now I don't need the comments about how horrible e-fences are from some of the members. This e-fence wasn't my first choice but my only choice for being able to let Charlie off his leash in our yard so I need to make this work. Thanks for any help you can give me. As you can probably tell by the tone of this message I am feeling very upset and defeated with this right now. It would be nice if the weather would warm up and I could just stay outside all day with him but it is once again snowing today. I sure miss my Texas springtime weather here in Pennsylvania. Thanks again!

I love Stuart's coat - and he doesn't shed?  I love the straighter scruffy look of Stuarts best.  Clancy has more of that look but he sheds quite a bit, as in a lot!

Hi Jane ~ I was just wondering how you are doing since the vandalism to your doodle decal ? Did you receive your new one yet ?
Hopefully you are on your way to putting the hurt behind you and being thankful that it was only a decal, and not one of the doodles !
All the best to you.....

Today Stuart ran his first 8k race, 4.97 miles.  Stuart has been running with his dad because he is like the energizer bunny - we can't wear him out.  Out of 150 runners he was the only dog!  Of course everyone thought he was totally awesome and he got lots of cheering and attention.  He even went to the after run breakfast and has some eggs, bacon and sausage.…

Dear Fudge & Vern, this is Rooney and boy do I have a bone to pick with you.  I have come to believe that your mom is a very bad influence on my mom.  It was bad enough that those two are taking a cruise while leaving us doods home - carousing about, having adventures and probably some frozen cocktails, but then your parents had to go get you a boat, and trust me - even though I HATE water, I was happy for you guys, cute pictures,…

Stuart's 1st Adoptaversary!!

Posted on June 7, 2012 at 2:30am 38 Comments

Most of you know Stuart's story - born in a puppy mill - how we adopted him from a rescue organization in Atlanta, how sick he was when we got him at 8 weeks.  Oh the stories I told about the Coccidia & Giardia - with the poop catching paper plates and rubber gloves.  I shudder to think back to the days when Stuart's body emanated an odor so repulsive to me that I cried, thinking I had made a mistake.  (We continue…
