About Me:
I'm a newly retired biology teacher with three kids and a hubby who retired from teaching several years ago. I have always had dogs, but Mattie was my first doodle. She's great! She is already a certified therapy dog and we are enjoying her company every day. Now we have Lyric who just passed her therapy dog test but she is totally different from Mattie and lots of fun. Mattie is almost 3 and Lyric is 1 1/2.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
My FIRST doodle is a medium labradoodle--her dad was an apricot mini-poodle and her mother was a red lab. She weighs 35 pounds, has deep red wavy hair with deep brown eyes and a rose nose and does not shed much at all. I got her from Tango Wool labradoodles--I have met many of the doodles from Tango Wool's litters and they are all great! I now have gotten another one! An apricot australian labradoodle named Lyric--much bigger than Mattie, but that's OK since Mattie loves to play with bigger dogs.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
I wanted a non-shedder with a lab disposition
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
Walks in the woods and kayaking--Mattie loves to sit with me and paddle around the lakes in our area. Lyric joined us in the spring of 2009 and she and mattie have a ball together. I have pics in my slide show of the two of them playing and hanging out. The third doodle, Zampe, a GD lives next door on the weekends.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
A little bit but nothing major
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
me
Favorite Doodle Products?
Les pooches brush, "The stuff"
Relationship Status:
Married

Hello...I have 2 Doodles just like yours....a white, ( though I cut mine differently) named Shayna, and a 6 month old, Loki, the Apricot. After reading your bio we have so much in common too, though I am not retired since teaching has been my 3rd career after Head Hunting and owning a restaurant in San Francisco years ago. If you are ever up in Rhode Island, where I live now, there is plenty of room here for the doodles and you guys....be sure to let me know...and join my group Dogsitting.....Take Care....adrienne

I LOVE the redirecting the dog and rewarding the calm behavior.

We just came from the vet. They told us ENOUGH ( well I could have told them that months ago and I tried ) but she will be placed on anti-anxiety meds to be combined with a NEW trainer. :)

She is a WONDERFUL dog. I love this girl--but somewhere her soul was chipped away. I'm going to do everything I can.

For her--beauty is only skin deep. I plan on changing that

Glad you joined. Loved your suggestions. For so long I was afraid to post--My doodle is not perfect. Well we can't always post the good stuff. Some of us want to make the bad stuff better. Again, Thanks

Hi Ginny,
Saw your post on fear-aggression in one of your dogs. My girl is 8.5 months and we are trying VERY hard to work with this before it gets out of hand. My husband and I have never been to so many places to meet so many people ( from afar ) but I do not see it getting any better. Starlit is not an Aussie :) and she is not herding anyone but she will be hurting someone soon. My sons no longer want to come to our home to visit
If you would like, join us in the doodle anxiety group. I hope to pass some ideas around about this issue.
There are so many out there that are coming out of the woodwork on this issue lately--I thought I was the only one.

Can doods catch a sparrow??

I had a "what the???" moment this morning. I was busy in the house while the dogs played and went in and out of the house (ahh, summer) when I spotted something weird on the living room floor. It was a very dead sparrow. I have no idea how it got there--Neither dog seemed too interested in it and one of my doodles usually eats anything she catches. (Luckily, she doesn't catch much because eating an animal does not really agree with her digestive system...) The other doodle, Lyric, is alwa… Continue

A goldendoodle sighting on vacation

Got away for a few days (without the doods) to a campsite in the Adirondacks--While kayaking, I passed a family in a canoe with a young goldendoodle. We had a nice chat about the website and I told the owner to check it out. (I do that every time I meet a new doodle owner-I wonder if anyone does it?) Anyway, her cute little doodle had just gone swimming and she noticed how matted he was underneath the surface fluff. I was so glad I was a DK member and had learned about puppy coats and the like f… Continue

So many doodles at the parade!

Every fourth or July, we participate in a small parade in a tiny town nearby. Anyone who wants to march or have a "float' (usually a wagon that is decorated with flags) can march down the road and be a part of it all. It is really fun and a great place to have some social time with your dog. There are always great dogs there. Today, my two doodles and I were marching along and from the sidelines, people with doodles on leashes were asking me if my two dogs were doodles! This happened 5 or 6 time… Continue

doodle romp Saturday--with a shaved doodle!

I can't wait to meet the other DK members and their doods at the doodle romp in Canton, Connecticut on Saturday! If you want to get in on it, check out the posts on the New England Doodles group page.
I will be a bit embarrassed to bring my Lyric--she has a nice big, fluffy head and a very skinny shaved body. I think my groomer sees one mat and shaves the whole dog. She had some mats here and there, but I didn't expect all her hair to be very short! Oh, well, it will grow back! I did

Our playdate with CC

The "caring canine" goldendoodle from my elementary school (she belongs to the school counselor and spends her day at school) came to my house today to play with my doods--As I expected they were INSTANT FRIENDS!! I just realized that I didn't take any pics! I will next time! Lyric and CC are so much alike--they played the most with Mattie standing by trying to get into the act. She is smaller, so they kind of ignored her! Both Lyric and CC like to "own" the toys, but they didn't fight about it.… Continue
