Hurley reads doodle

Started this discussion. Last reply by Ricki and Tara (doodle) Aug 29, 2012. 16 Replies

I swear Hurley has been looking over my shoulder when I am on the doodle website. I say that because in the last few days I was reading about the doodle, who when in the car, barked at dogs out for a…Continue

Profile Information

About Me:
I am retired, married and a grandmother who is daily doing what I love most. Enjoying family, running, strength training, cycling, teaching indoor cycling, teaching a Healthy Back class, TaiChi,Yoga and helping others get fit. I am a certified personal trainer with a goal of helping others in my age group to improve their life style through exercise and good eating habits. My husband and I like to mt cycle, hike, etc. We fell in love with Labradoodles after dog sitting our kid's doodle on several occasions. We hope to train Hurley to become a certified Therapy Dog.
.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
Our Labradoodle is named Hurley. He is a wavy fleece. We also have two 19 year old cats. We now only have one 20 year old cat. Shibaka died a few months ago but Nicho, a really sweat petite Burmese, continues to do well.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
Because they are quiet, smart, loving, caring, don't shed and great for people with allergies. They are truly special and simply beautiful inside and out. Our Hurley is our buddy. He follows us everywhere and sleeps on our bed at night. That started very early. We swore we weren't going to let him do that but he wasn't with us 2 months and we changed his sleeping quarters from the crate to the bed and he has been there ever since. At 50 lbs he takes up a lot of room but we don't care. At least my husband doesn't care because Hurley sleeps at the end of the bed on my side so I have come up with some creative sleeping positions so I don't disturb Hurley.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
He was 3 1/2 months old when we got him. He turns one year on Nov 29th. From the time we picked Hurley up at the airport we immediately fell in love with him and consider him a member of our family. We take him for walks, to the grandkid's ball games, to play with the kid's doodle and their other dogs, and he romps with several dogs that his trainer takes to the park a couple of times a week. He takes short runs with me, very short and only a couple of days a week. After he is 18-24 months I will gradually start increasing the mileage. I look forward to Hurley running with me and going on trail runs. We look forward to taking him to the mountains for long walks in summer and playing in the snow in winter.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Nope!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
We found a groomer who is good at trimming Labradoodles.
Favorite Doodle Products?
Still exploring various products but we have a personal trainer who comes to the house to work with Hurley and us. She has offered suggestions that we are finding Hurley seems to enjoy.

Hi Diane -  We have traveled all over Europe & Scandinavia on our bikes. Our first trip was a guided one in Loir Valley, France. We were with a big group and you had to wait for some and others were way ahead! So we decided to do the self-guided tours. They are wonderful - You use a company and they book all you reservations and take you luggage from place to place. All you have is a map and bad directions! They do give you a GPS now if you get into trouble. We have only called once in over a dozen trips because Carl's bike frame broke! It's like a scavenger hunt to find the next city! We use Discover France, Pure Adventures, Scanam and Irish Cycling Safari in the past and they have been great. The first one was Duvine Adventures, which is very expensive but sure got us hooked! Do a wine tour first (if you like wine!) very fun! If you want any info let me know - I keep up with it all and we are planning a trip to Holland soon!

Hi Diane ~ I just wanted to say thanks for not thinking I was crazy with the possibility that maybe that tree could have a bear trying to climb it. Some folks got a little bit sarcastic about the idea. Obviously Jane didn't know what it was, and posted the pic for feedback. So it was nice to get a friendly "could be" opinion.

Hurley is beautiful ! I love his name too.

Hurley is a doll! We had a personal trainer come to the house in the beginning and it was ok. But I really wanted Remy & Roux to be with other dogs too. That didn't work out at thier other class either because they were the only ones!! Doggie day care occ. and the dog park have helped!

Sounds like you are very active - we are too. My husband and I were  doing week long self guided tours on our bikes everywhere and I am a big yoga person - just got back from class! Namaste!

Diane,

Hurley wouldn't be allowed to come to the nosework class, but you and your husband are welcome to check out the training.

All dogs are crated, no meet and greets.  This is actually a sport that dogs that don't get along with other dogs can safely compete, learn and have fun.

Diane, if you interested in meet ups and other fun stuff to do with Hurley, we have a LV group like Linda mentioned:

That would be fun. I really should socialize Toby more. He plays often with my daughter's Lab and Bull-Mastador, but I don't take him to the dog parks much. He's met some aggressive dogs that have made him wary of dogs he doesn't know. Have you met up with any of the other local doodle owners in the "Las Vegas Area Doodles" group? They get together quite often for romps at the parks, walks in the mountains, and even swim parties - lol! They are all very nice people - especially GBK (Gina). She and both of her doodles are sooo sweet.
