"Not sure I have an answer for you. But with our now 8 month old doodle we would take him to creeks and he wouldn't go in them and lakes he would shy away from and the pool - same thing - wouldn't get near it. I continued to take him to…"

I have a pool in my back yard and two doodles that won't go near it. Any suggestions?

OK - I tried to post this the other day but ended up posting it as a comment instead of starting a discussion.  Does anybody have a doodle that doesn't like to swim? We have two f1b doodles - a five year old and a two year old. We have a huge pool in our backyard that they refuse to come near. They won't even get in the pond when we meet with other doodle owners at the dog park. What's wrong with my doodles!  We would love for them to swim.  We've even tried throwing Daisy's tennis ball in the…See More

I noticed Daisy looks a lot like my Allie. Allie is an F1bb. Her dad is an F1b goldendoodle and her mom is a poodle. You have two very cute doods.

About swimming dogs - I have one that loves the water and another that will get his feet wet at the beach, but that is about it. Groucho Too loves water. His big desire in life is to be a surfer and he follows surfers right out into the water to see if he can get a ride. Hondo, on the other hand, seldom gets wet. And these are two dogs that have the raised at Carmel Beach.

Yes, the boys are big, but they are pretty well behaved. The pancake hunt is my husband's Saturday morning game with the dogs. He always makes pancakes and then takes each dog outside and hides pancakes all over the deck. They sit and watch and "go gettum" when he tells them to go. They seldom miss one, but the other dog is watching from inside and will get one that has been missed. Groucho Too stands up to find his pancakes, but Hondo stays on the ground. It is very funny to watch.

That's the nature of both male and female dogs. The males are just more passive and will always give in to the females. There is some genetic response to the possibility of future mating (althouigh that will never occur). And the females are just bitches. There is a reason for that name.

Welcome to the Heavyweights group. Which of your dogs is the Heavyweight? Or is more than one a big boy (girl)? Both my boys are heavyweights (over 100 pounds each). But just more to love, don't you agree?
