Nancy - Opal, Meadow & Tariki said… Hi Cherri... I have not had the smelly issue you described on the Health page with my Doods... but my last dog used to express his anal glands whenever he was startled or afraid. It was sort of like a skunk spraying - there was a spray. On their own my Doods FART alot! LOL... But I have also heard my groomer describe a fishy smell at the rear end as a need for expressing anal glands. I have not noticed it myself tho.
Joanne ~ Spud* said… Or an empty tennis court. That one is good too! Just make sure no other people.
Joanne ~ Spud* said… You can walk a dog this age--50 times day and it won't wear them out. We used a school--with no people around, bought a Chuck It toy and let him have at it. 20 mins later, we loaded him back into the car and came home.
P.S. wear the dog out some with exercise FIRST before you attempt to train otherwise it is just a joke :) They are so hyper and happy they just can't learn until they burn off some energy.
Joanne ~ Spud* said… Personally, I think you are going to be okay :)
I see you joined the Training Group-Great.
Also, find a good trainer. It makes a world of difference. No, not a puppy class that teaches tricks. You want an obedience trainer. Key word-Obedience. Just 6-8 weeks of classes and I am positive you and the dog will be happier. Stick with us. We want to help
Walking--4-20 times a day. HA. Take the dog to a local school and run it for a good 20 mins. We played frisbee with ours or fetch. It ran and ran ( 20 mins ) and then we went home to peace.
