My advise is to keep the 5 year old away from the dog. Mabey even keep away by a gate.

Your scenerio sounds just like mine. Thank you for sharing that. I will definately start making Bear work for everything he gets. You are right, it is hard not to get frusterated at the bigger dog for bullying the smaller one. I am going to start br…

Hi Cherri. This has been a discussion I had before. My aussiedoodle did that twice. If you look on my page, you probably will find the thread. How old is your doodle? They do go thru' a stage where they try to push buttons and this is one of the thi…

Neither of my dogs are allowed in the kitchen. I started training them on this when they were young, but with patience you can do it at any age. When the dog enters the kitchen you stand in front of him and say "out" and you walk him out, using your…

I will call, Thank you. Good to know that this is fixable! So scary around children.

Thank you all for the advice. We are definately start the training again. Thought we were finished after he learned the commands, but looks like we need to continually establish authority especially for my kids sake.

I think you are right about taking that out of his mouth. We really have to train our children as much as we do our dog to not ever take anything out of his mouth. I think it scared my son so badly that Bear was going to get hurt by the chocolate th…

Very true Nancy. I think my maltese can act just as ugly, but I have never seen her bite my kids. I just don't want this to become what he thinks is acceptable. I just don't want it to happen to anyone else's kids either that come over. It was such…

Well, when we got him at eight weeks old, he had a huge problem with resource guarding. We worked for weeks with him on training him with us and then our kids directed by a dog trainer. We have not been doing it since then because we thought he was…

I am sorry you and others are having this problem. I am sure it is compounded by the dog's size. Smaller dogs may do these things but it does get scarier when you are dealing with one of the big guys.

I totally understand. I have been working with my 5 mos old labradoodle X goldendoodle Henry on the same issues. Because he is so tall he can reach up to the island and eat food off it--labs and retrievers have be known to eat till they make themsel…

Chewie is also eight months old and we have been working with him on resource guarding on high value items. It's a gradual process. In a situation like yours, where he had something dangerous to him (chocolate), we would immediately "trade" him for…

Profile Information

About Me:
I was ready for another baby, my husband was wanting something sporty, my son was wanting a new best friend to live with us and my daughter was hoping for something soft to love on. All of these needs seemed to be met by one special breed of dog and that was a new Golden Doodle. Sweet Disposition and needing special training and caring for (me), wanting to fetch, run and do tricks (my husband), wants to be with the family and go every where we go (my son) and soft curls to rub your fingers through, tolerating endless kisses, (my daughter).
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
Bear is our black f1b goldendoodle we got from Cheyanne Valley Labradoodles. He is still a baby and runs nonstop and flips over anything that gets in his way. We also have a maltese that is not quite one yet. She is not sure what to think about this huge baby that is the same size she is and pushes her around, but lets him know who is boss very fast. He throws himself over everytime we walk by to get his belly rubbed. He thinks he is big britches around here!
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
I love their sweet love of people and temperaments. I wanted the less shedding coat and the intelligence of both of the Breeds. Most of all, I just wanted the pet that I heard is the best family pet on earth for our family. Love thier funny personalities.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
I love his sweet kisses in the morning and playing ball with him. We are working on house manners right now and am excited to start the training process with him.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Nope!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
Not sure yet, Just got him
Favorite Doodle Products?
Natural Bones, tennis balls, and oatmeal shampoo
Relationship Status:
Married

Sweet Hair

We gave Bear a bath tonight and boy he loves the water. My husband actually gave him a bath. He must really love this dog because he does not even bathe our children! lol We put conditioner in his sweet soft curls and he came out as soft as a stuffed animal. It makes us so sad he will loose all his baby hair. It is so perfect right now!!! I guess we need enjoy it while we can. He gets more cuddly everyday. (and michievious!)

Hi Cherri, I JUST came across your comment/question on one of my pictures regarding owning a goldendoodle and maltese. Sherlock is actually a maltipoo, but close enough :-)
Sherlock and Noah get along really really well. Noah is finished growing at 23lbs and Sherlock is around 11lbs. They play a lot and do everything together. There's about a 6 month age difference between the two of them. It took Sherlock about an hour to warm up to Noah and once he figured out that Noah was a fun new buddy to play with, they were inseparable. He actually can be pretty protective of Noah and won't let big dogs push Noah around.
Bear is beautiful. The next dog I get I want to be black and furry :-)
How are things going with Bear and your maltese? Do they get along? Sorry again for the very loooong delay.

I am so glad you passed your exam. I can't believe all the hoops teachers have to jump through now - which is good in that you are very qualified by the time you are done, but, here at least, teachers aren't teaching so much as disciminating information, so all of the wonderful stuff you learn, you don't get to apply so much.
Ned quit growing at about 8 - 9 months. I think the smaller doodles mature earlier than the bigger ones. Ned hasn't even gained any weight since then and he is 20 months old.
