Today was a very special day for Banjo and I. Elizabeth and Bailey and Lori and her girls Daphne and Lucy drove up to visit us at the beach. It was such a thrill to meet real, live Doodle Kisses members AND their awesome dogs. It was clear right from the beginning that these girls (Bailey, Daphne and Lucy) have been around. These three Doodle Girls really know how to have a good time.....running, chasing and rolling around on the beach full of joy and unending energy!
Banjo…

I'm not sure what it is about Saturday mornings....they've always had a "special" feeling about them. I suppose it started as a kid, because I didn't have to get up to go to school.
Good things always seemed to happen on Saturdays.
Maybe it was an afternoon at the movies, shopping with my sisters and Mom, playing games with neighborhood friends, sledding down the biggest hill in town, taking a car ride to nowhere in particular with the family, barbecue in the backyard,…

While in Florida this past February we had many wonderful days on the beach. The best part of our vacation was tthat the beach was wonderfully dog friendly. and it seemed almost everyone there had a dog! Everyday was a wonderful adventure with new people and dogs to meet! Banjo was in heaven! Happy Dog = Happy Dog Parents!
One afternoon towards the end of our stay Banjo and I were walking the beach and encountered a woman with her young son and - get this - a nine day old…

Carol and Banjo commented on Debb, Lucy & Oscar's blog post Partners in Crime... and Emergency Averted! Thanks Carol. It seems that Cooper does use his Leg more when we are out in the Grass, and with Wooden Floors probably does not feel as comfortable. My last Golden Retriever had stiff joints late in Life, and I massaged him all the time, and know that it really did help. I do feel terrible about the Razor burn, but it looks better today, and I hope to get rid of the Cone Head soon!! I don't comment much on Doodle Kisses, but I am on it Daily, and always love seeing and hearing about Banjo. He is Adorable. Thanks for your Concern.
Thank you for thinking about Cooper, He was taken out of his Cast last week, and is now in Bandages. The Doctor said he is healing well, but I don't see it. He still mainly hops on three legs, but does use it some of the time. The Vet said he would do this for awhile, but it makes me think that he is still in pain. He still has to be kept in a small area and only taken out to do his business. He was very good about leaving his cast alone, and did not have to wear his Cone, but unfortunately I gave him Razor burn when doing his sanitary trim. Grooming him on the floor while lying to him is very hard, and I usually us Scissors to do the trim, but he kept flipping, so I had to use the clippers. He made it worse by licking, so I will keep the Cone on until I can clear it up. It breaks my Heart to see him like he is, but he has been a good trooper, and handles the Cone better than any Dog I have ever had. I was going to put a Tee-shirt on to keep him from licking, but it will heal much quicker when exposed to the air. It looks like it will be the end of July before we know how well he will do. I love the pictures of my Boy Banjo on the border of your site. He knows his Picture is being taken, and he is posing!!! Cooper goes in for another checkup at the end of the Month, and I hope by then he is hopping on three legs a little less, and walking on all fours more!!
Thanks Carol. Cooper is adjusting to his situation, but it is not easy for a Dog that is so used to being off leash, and playing all the time. There is very little flat ground here, so it was difficult at first to get him to go in the Grass. They always went up the hill into the Woods. Raining for three Days now, and at least two more to go, so have to cover cast, and keep my self dry in heavy downpours. He really gets upset when I go in the Car, and he can't go. Both Dogs love to ride, even if it is just ten minutes to go to town and get mail. I was comparing Insurance costs when this happened, and Neighbor had given me an article saying it doesn't pay to get it. Oh well, this is the first time in owning Dogs for almost Fifty years of my life that I have ever had a Dog injured, so I learn the hard way.
Actually Spring has been a little rough for me and the Dogs. Cooper and Claire were chasing critters, and got in a wood pile, and Cooper got his leg jammed, tearing the Ligaments in his lower Front leg joint. Surgery about three weeks ago, and on June first we go back for X-Rays. Then a decision will be made to leave Cast, or cut down size, and how much longer before Splint, and finally total removal of support. Worse thing was that Claire got into Deramex on way home from the Emergency VET, and ate 16, so I ended up having her in Emergency intensive care for three Days!!! Have to keep Cooper quiet and confined to small area for at least Eight Weeks. I hope your Spring is a lot better, and always look for pictures of Banjo
Jay and Lola said… PS: I know what you mean about the motorcycles. I had a ducati that I used to love to ride everywhere but I got rid of it a while back. Now I hate going anywhere without Lola!
Jay and Lola said… Thanks Carol. No, Lulu the Bear is more like a cousin :) So funny, Lola would play with her like she was another puppy. Clearly no idea that in about 6 months that puppy will eat her for a snack! Aw, Chicago isn't so bad ... just make sure to bundle up. Although I agree, that is kind of a strange time for a wedding. PS: My middle name is Alton. Funny.
Lynne A said… Eve is supposedly 25 lbs, and Sundance is close to 25 lbs. They are saying 18-25 for the litter, but I would be fine if it was higher than that. Nutmeg is definitely one of the larger of the litter. She doesn't have any markings, but several did have white on their chests. We chose her because of her coat (straighter vs. curly), blockier snout, and initial personality assessment based on (albeit very early) temperment testing that Melisa did. Was Banjo's coat similar to Nutmeg's when she was very young? Re: food, we are also getting some of the current food to mix with the new. Hopefully we won't have too many issues.
Lynne A said… Hi Carol - Nutmeg's parents are Eve and Sundance. Eve is from Sunny and Pierre's X-mas Eve 2009 litter, perhaps Banjo's litter as well? If so, I think that makes Banjo Nutmeg's uncle, right? Unrelated question: what kind of food did you feed Banjo as a puppy? We are going to try Blue Buffalo Wilderness, so we'll see how it goes.
Lori & Quincy said… Well if you are bringing Banjo and have time for a doodle play date here on LI-be sure to let us know! Happy Spring!
