"My suggestion is to allow more freedom in small increments by using gates, ex-pens to block areas etc.  I actually think you are jumping the gun on complete freedom though.  We got our doodle at about 14 weeks and we did not give him free…"

How to transition from crate to free reign?

Hi there!! I have a 18week old labradoodle we got when she was 12 weeks old. She has a crate which we put her in at night, an for short periods of time during the day when it's too hot and we have to run errands. But I would love to finally be able to let her have free reign of the house when we are home. Currently I take her outside every hour to two hours to give her chances to eliminate, and keep her in a confined area either by a baby gate or on a leash next to me & her sister. How…See More

Profile Information

About Me:
I grew up in a small town in the Central Valley, which allowed for my family to have as many animals as we wished. We had chickens, birds, hamsters, cats, and Dachsunds (which allowed my parents to be breeders for more than 13 years). I love all animals, but dogs have a special place in my heart!
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
I have a F2 Labradoodle. She is all black, and her name is Piper. I purchased her from a family breeder (they only have one mom... don't really call themselves breeders). She was 12 weeks when she came home with us!
We also have a chihuahua-dachsund who is two weeks younger than Piper, and her name is Sadie. She came to our home first as a pet for our three year old son; but when we came across Piper's breeders post about her availability we couldn't say, "No!!"
So Sadie now has a big sister (in all aspects both size and age) and even though they are polar opposites, they are very protective of each other and act as if they came from the same litter.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
I've always been partial to Dachsunds as that is what I was raised with, but my Great Aunt and Uncle purchased a labradoodle a year ago and we fell in love!! We initially wanted one from the same breeder as my Aunt's puppy, but couldn't afford them as they were too pricey. We came across this breeder who was selling Piper and her siblings relatively cheap as they had 12 pups and needed to get rid of them in FOUR days!
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
Swimming, fetch, cuddle time, playing with her sister and her human brother
Does your doodle(s) shed?
A little bit but nothing major
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
We do.
Favorite Doodle Products?
I haven't found any yet!
