A Prayer for All the Angels of Newtown

I have long loved The Tenors (formerly the Canadian Tenors) but this song with Charice just takes my breath away, and I think is very appropriate for the little ones so horribly lost. …Continue

"I used to use salmon oil as well. It's a great source of omega 3's. My dogs now get krill oil - for the same reason. Being a raw feeder, the human grade food I give them is often grain fed which ratchets up the omega 6 in the meat. So the…"

Profile Information

About Me:
I am computer network analyst working for the Canadian federal government. My job is so secret, even I don't know what I really do. :-) I live in a rural area in eastern Ontario, Canada and have a long suffering husband who has a home office, so our doods are never left alone.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
I have two Goldendoodles although one is entirely black. Riley is a few months shy of 3 years old; he's the black one. Long, soft wavy hair. Molly is 2 1/2 years old and is very poodley in nature and looks. Her coat is coarse, very curly and lovely shades of white and gold.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
I had just lost my heart dog, a black Lab, and I really needed another dog in my life. Now my Lab was a perfect animal but he did shed. I was leaning towards a poodle and found this breed instead from a friend.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
Walking, playing ball, playing tag, being couch potatoes together, gardening - they like to dig. Swimming.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Nope!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
Terry - pro groomer

A Tribute to Mr. Jake and Raw Feeding

Posted on April 21, 2012 at 8:39am 20 Comments

We lost Mr. Jake today. At 16 or 17 (we never were quite sure), he had a good life and senior years that were loving, comfortable and stress free. With very heavy hearts, we took Jake to our vet, and he was euthanized in a very quiet, calm, and respectful manner. I held him as he took his last breath and his heart just stopped. I stroked him the whole time and said quiet, sweet words to him, I do hope he knew I was there for him at the end and that I loved him very much.

Mr. Jake was…

Food and Allergies

Posted on January 31, 2012 at 3:43pm 13 Comments

There have been several discussions recently on more than one site I belong to regarding skin problems and food and allergies. This has prompted me to put together some information from some very credible sources, which some of you may find interesting.

According to most of the literature I've read, the top three reasons for itchy skin in dogs, manifesting itself as itchy, red, irritated skin, are 1) fleas 2) Atopic either contact or inhalant and 3) food allergy. What the majority of…

RAW DIETS DO NOT MEET THE AAFCO STANDARDS AND ARE INFERIOR TO COMMERCIAL FOODS.

I could not say this any better so have reproduced one of the biggest myths of Raw Feeding from http://rawfed.com/myths/.

The repost is the property of Carissa who's bio is: "I graduated from Colorado State University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology and Biology, with a concentration in Anatomy and Physiology. I worked for 4 years in the Clinical Sciences Department of the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital before deciding that…

Raw Feeding Journal – Bacteria and Raw Food

Posted on June 1, 2011 at 7:10pm 2 Comments

The single biggest concern of anyone contemplating feeding a raw diet has to be the bacteria in raw meat. Sorry, actually it’s second behind, “You actually feed your dog chicken bones?”

Yes there are bacteria in raw meat, just as there are bacteria in processed dog food. Can the bacteria in raw meat hurt a dog? Well it might if your dog already had a compromised immune system or some other underlying health issue. Information or should I say misinformation on the Internet also suggests… Continue

Oh, Andrea, I was crying just reading your story.  So far he seems happy and pain free. He does not do much but still eats, drinks and knows to go outside.  He still loves to cuddle so I am waiting for a sign before I do anything.

Hi Andrea - Yes, we are fine, I really appreciate your concern. Unfortunately there were a couple of reported fatalities -which is so sad, and there are still hundreds of people without power even this morning. My neighbors are fine, they both removed their entire tree to avoid this from ever happening in their yard again. I pray everyone will be able to regain some sort of normalcy soon! Thanks so much for reading.
