Hi there "RIDOODLES"!
I am 57 and have put a lot of time in, and have mostly loved it. I hurt my back right off and have had years of issues with it. I had surgery the end of September and am doing remarkably well with that. I had 3 herniated discs and they did sx on one disc level. I am good to go, but cautious because of the other 2 discs.
I do have a lot of interests to keep me busy, but love the idea of still being involved with patients on some level. Perhaps with one of my Doodles, as a therapy dog. This year has been full with my own health issues, and I am hoping to get stronger and to get back to getting these 2 trained! They are my own little therapy dogs, in the meantime!
I understand the desire for working at your own pace....my nursing career never allowed for that...ever!
Your gardening, boarding horses, and dogs sound like wonderful things to focus on! I love that!!!!!

I think about retiring all the time lately , my back is an issue for me, and lately my knees so ide love to make it a reality asap...and work at something else at My own pace.
Dream job..owning 30 acres, with a barn, board horses for folks who cant any longer and then garden in greenhouses...this is my dream..at the age of 51 the time will be soon...i hope..Is there anything of interest you could do elswhere?

Hello all! It is great to see so many nurses here. I have been in touch with a few. I noticed a couple of folks here that are talking about retirement in the not-so-distant future. I graduated from school in 1975, and have worked mostly Internal Medicine, and then 27 years as a chemo therapy RN. with some wonderful Oncologists. Recently I have worked in a Retina Clinic , helping patients with with macular degeneration, and also in a clinic giving immunizations. Due to health issues with malabsorption and my back, I am working limited hours. I am wondering about retirement at some point, but actually have always loved being an RN. My health issues are limiting, and if they were not, I wouldn't even consider retiring. I worry about being busy enough and fulfilled without a career. For those of you who are retired, semi-retired or considering it, how does this work for you?

HI all of you nurses and nurses to be..I am an RN x 28 yrs out of 'Diploma School" that was enough school for this brain, I have been on Medical floors, med surg, ICU,NB Nsy,traveling Nurse,visiting nurse,past 24 yrs in L&D...starting ti get a bit burnt out..so we are hobby breeders of Labradoodles and it really helps those stressful days to return home to cuddle fluffs and play with an assortment of our doodles...happy to join this wonderful group :-)

Hello everyone! I just joined this group, hoping it would be alright with you all. I am a nursing student. In January i will be starting my 2nd semester, of 4. My F1b goldendoodle is Barkley. He is 3 years old and my best buddy!! He is by far the best behaved kid in the house! I cannot imagine my life without him!

Hi Lynn - I personally don't have direct hospice experience (I work for an insurance co. so do prior approvals for them all the time but that's the extent of my involvement), however I do have a friend who works for Hospice of AZ and loves it. When Bosco reaches a year old, I'd love to have him complete therapy training to get him involved in one of the local hospice organizations. Good luck to you!
