I have three and would have more if I had the room. P.S I am not an animal hoarder, I just love Doodles. I would love to have a choc. doodle.  I am watching the rescue sites and maybe someday one will find me. I have two girls and one male. All were easy to train and they all get along great.

Well, Patti, I have a preference to males because I think they are easy going.  Also, the neutering is easier with the males, just snip, snip.  My son had a female dog when he was younger and she was super protective toward him.  She would get between him and anyone who bothered him (including me).  Totally dedicated to one person only.  I don't know if that is a typical female trait, but we sure noticed it.

Can someone please tell me the advantage/disadvantage in selecting a male or female.  I've only had female pets in the past.  Thank you.

Another idea is to find a picture of a Doodle with a cut and look you like and take it to the groomer. Good luck. Nice thing about dog hair, it grows back quickly.

regarding grooming:  don't let them shave between his eyes & down his nose...make sure they leave his beard on the chin & cheeks..leave length on his ears...no pom pom on his head or you will have a poodle cut...if you want fluffy, be specific...if you leave it up to the groomer, who knows how he'll look :)

Taking my 5 month old Goldendoodle, Copper, for his first grooming appt on Thursday.  I want him to stay fluffy, but he really needs to lose some of the hair because it's been 100 here in Ky for the last several weeks. What do I tell the groomer that I want them to do?  Or is there anything that I should tell them NOT to do?

My honest opinion is: it depends on EACH individual dog... also genetics. Who the parents are is important. Read about the difference of generational crosses, especially about being hypoallergenic. Your input, environment, attention & training are critical... but you've got to look at the innate temperment of the pup.
Mine happened to be very very mellow. Each is an individual. Check them out. Best of luck. I couldn't be more thrilled and in love with Tess. There are certain stages that have been easier then others. But, I wouldn't change any so far.
