Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I am working on a series of blog posts about grooming products for doodles and dogs in general. I would love feedback as to what other pet owners look for in products. Do you seek out organic products and are there ingredients you shy away from in products for your pets? What about price? How much do you spend on average? What products do you keep on hand and what do you use regularly? What are your favorite brands and products? What conditions (dry skin, itchy skin, ear mites, smell, etc...) do you find yourself keeping at the forefront of your mind when when you shop for products for your pets? I really appreciate any input you have as I work on posts that are relevant to pet owners everywhere. Thanks!

Permalink Reply by Nancy, Ned, and Clancy on November 2, 2011 at 8:35pm For Ned's non-shedding coat we use a slicker brush and a comb. The slicker needs to be of high quality (ours is LesPouchs) and have bent tines in a flexible body. Slickers that aren't like that just gloss over the hairs which will mat at the skin level. Our comb is simple, steel graduated-toothed. We also use Cowboy Magic and The Original Horse Mane 'n Tale Detangler for specific mats. We have Cowboy Magic shampoo which we seldom use because we take him to a groomer every 4 - 6 weeks.
Clancy's coat has both shedding and non-shedding areas. The parts that shed, shed a lot! Clancy rarely mats. I can use the slicker, the comb or a pin brush.
We also have a Springer Spaniel that we keep cut in the Springer cut. His ears get crusty so we use a slicker to brush to most easily brush through them.
We bought some shampoo recently that you can use on their coats dry - like if they roll in something. We tried it out this summer and didn't see that it did anything but maybe I expected too much. I wanted it to do general cleaning and make them smell nice when we were camping.
