Just the Recipies

If you would, please just recipies, no discussions in the recipe pages. If we get enough, maybe we could make up our own DoodleKisses Cookbook. We are teamed up with The Food Group. Join there for discussion.

I have been told that Cocoa's father (Sadie's grandfather) was thin until he was between 3&4 years old. Cocoa is turning 3 so maybe she'll start gaining now. Sadie is pregnant, we hope, so we're really socking the extra calories to her. Her sister, who is from the same litter, isn't thin or fat, just right. My dogs are very active, they have a 1 1/2 acre yard to run in and take full advantage.

The calorie requirements of a breeding female are far above those of a spayed or neutered dog. For the average house pet, it is much healthier for them to be slightly underweight than overweight.
Genetics do play a role in body mass and metabolism.

I don't have any overweight dogs, just the opposite. I'm trying to "beef up" 2 of my girls. The vet says they're healthy but underweight. They have the same access to food that the other two do (who are not underweight). I've actually put 2 pounds on our Sadie in the last month by feeding her extra cottage cheese and eggs. Her mother has always been thin so I think it's genetic.

Thanks, Karen, I'm not too concerned about the calories - The recipe calls for only 2 Tbsp & Mac is pretty active. .

Almond butter is higher in calories and fat than peanut butter, and lower in protein, so peanut butter is preferable, but the almond butter isn't harmful. One bonus to almond butter is that it's exceptionally high in calcium.

Is almond butter safe for adding to doodle cookies? Ran out of peanut butter & need to bake more cookies.

Pumpkin is also good for diarrhea it helps clear it up. Several vets I have worked for have suggested it with new puppies in the transition when they get diarrhea. A spoonful or two to help solidify things so to say LOL.

That's a great tip...

I saw this tip on TV the other morning and thought that I would share it. It was talking about "people" recipes, but don't see why it wouldn't work the same in all of these recipes. It saves lots and lots of calories so would be particularly good for the treat recipes. In any recipe that calls for "oil" you can substitute an equal amount of applesauce or canned pumpkin for the oil!
