Our, almost two year old, mini-golden doodle has always been a well behaved dog.  Suddenly in the past

week or two he is chewing on things that do not belong to him!  He swiped my daughter's hat, my book mark, a wooden doll shoe and tonight it was my throw rug =(  I am so frustrated and am not sure how to handle this.

All the chewing has been when we leave the house.  While we are gone he is gated inthe kitchen area with a large area to roam.  He has his crate and all of his toys (rope, kong, etc.) and get s a treat on our way out.

I do not work so he is only left for a few hours here and there but we are in and out all day.  He is walked twice a day for a total of 20 minutes.

We are leaving for vacation next week with a house sitter coming and a dog walker but I'm not sure what to tell them!  I'm thinking of crating him when we leave again.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Stress????  Ned is 4 1/2 and was a real pill this past September.  He will get into trash if available, but has outgrown chewing up boxes of kleenex, and going out of his way to grab other things to chew.  I am sure it was stress for him.

Stress, boredom, lack of exercise, need for more mental stimulation? Just guessing here. But that's what I look for when one of mine start acting out. Usually it's one of the above. Did you mean he gets 2 walks 20 minutes each? Maybe the dog walker can take him for longer walks? And the sitter can play catch during the day too. A tired doodle is a good doodle,

I agree with Sue.  My guys always get into trouble when they are bored and haven't had enough exercise.  They all have different amounts of energy, and that energy has to find some place to go.  We take our Doodles for one long walk (over an hour) and several shorter walks each day.  We take them to different places to make it more interesting for them.  In addition to that, our standard Doodle treadmills for 45 minutes to an hour.  He needs this much exercise or he gets frustrated and that's when he gets himself in trouble.
