Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi Everyone :) My Lani is now a little over a year old. Last year when I first brought her home I had taken her to the local Apple Fest held each year. Since she was so young and so tiny I carried her around. Now it's fall again and the craft fairs are starting up again so my mother and I took Lani today to the Sugar Loaf Town Fair. This was her first official fair walking around and dealing with big crowds, children, etc... She has been exposed over the past year to various locations and people, but never such a big fair. So anyhow, she was sooo good! Everyone stopped and wanted to pet her; she was giving kids kisses and hugs, etc... I was so proud of her, but my proudest moment of all was when a women who was an aid for a group of Down Syndrome children and adults asked if the group could pet Lani as they don't get exposed to a lot. I said sure. I know that ALD's are known for their therapy side and are known as great therapy dogs, which is one charateristic that drew me to this breed since I suffer from severe anxiety and depression, and I know how great Lan is with me. But, she's never met a group of handicapped people let alone a group of Down Syndrome. I couldn't believe it! Without me having to tell Lani, she knew to stay still and let the Down Syndrome kids and adults touch her. Somehow she realized one was sight impared and gave the man her paws and stood up so he could see her better. She just stood there, holding on to him and letting him look at her! Then, when Lan was standing one of the girl's in the group came up and Lani stayed standing and gave her some kisses. If it was up to Lan she would have stayed with them all day!!! I was sooo proud of her, and she knew how to react and how to be around them without me having to tell her so! She was sooo good :) Of course, after I gave her lots of hugs and kisses and told her how proud I was of her.

Permalink Reply by Sue & Lily Grace on October 6, 2012 at 3:42pm Joanie, that is so wonderful. Lani is one sweet looking doodle. It's wonderful that she was such a sweet girl with all the strangers. You know I think they just know somehow when people who are so vulnerable are near. I know my two are so sweet and gentle with our two elderly neighbours. They sit nicely and let Roger and Edna love on them and pet them.
You have every right to be proud of your little girl.
