Irritation from grooming ?
Beckett was groomed last Wednesday. I noticed on Thursday or Friday that he was red in the area where he has been neutered(previously..lol). I know it's from the groomer because it wasn't there before. It still hasn't gone away. I thought it was getting better, but I guess not. I checked it tonight. It's not a mess...just red. ? if infected but don't think so. I put his collar on tonight that we got from the vet when he was neutered because he has been licking it and I don't think the licking is helping either. I had some nystatin cream we got from the vet for a skin infection Beckett had about a year or so ago. So I put some of that on it too. I was wondering how long I should try this before calling the vet?? He seems to be eating fine.(peeing and pooping fine too) He plays too. I was thinking maybe till Friday and if not any better by then that I'd give them a call. Any advise, suggestions, etc would be great. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Thanks.

An antibiotic cream should be helpful. As long as it doesn't look any worse I'd watch it. If the area gets bigger or swells, gets really hot, etc. I'd have the vet check it out.

Sounds like a little bit of razor burn. The last two groomers did that to Jonas and he was sore/red/licking for close to a week.
It'll go away but it bothers them. It may be okay to let him lick it, isn't that how they heal minor sores, etc.?

We had this problem at Christmas time when we were away from home. After a few days it cleared up without any meds. I did feel that Bodi had one spot that was infected. We watched carefully and everything cleared up. Bodi did lick and nibble on these areas . . . I would just watch it and go to the vet if it gets worse.

My parents shih tzu had this and it was razor burn. I would still keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get infected.

I agree that it sounds like razor burn. Smear with cortizone ointment and neosporin and make sure he doesn't lick it off. Ask the groomer to refrain from close-shaving him in this sensitive area next time.

Finn got razor burn and I didn't notice it until he had licked it raw. Maybe you caught it in time and if Beckett doesn't get at it, it may heal just fine. Do NOT let him lick it and put the cream on. Licking it can turn it into this:
